The Crew

Dulcinea is owned by Owen & Emma Crump and based in Havelock Marina (Marlborough Sounds) in the South Island.

Owen Crump
Owen has been around boats from an early age, often spending weeks aboard 'Taranui', his dads 21' Midnight trailer sailer during school holidays. He then progressed to being crew (very loose use of the word crew, more like ballast) on his dads 14' Hobie cat and a charter yacht with family friends. It wasn't until he completed the 5 day RYA Practical Day Skipper course that the bug really bit and a few months later a group of friends chartered a 35' Beneteau for Christmas of 2010, and only 3 months later he was the proud owner of Dulcinea.

Non boating related, Owen completed high school in 2002, went on to complete half of a Bachelor of Design in Architecture before realising a more hands on career would suit better and enlisted in the NZ Army as a Field Engineer. Not liking the structure of the Army he moved on in life and began a career in the plumbing industry where he completed his apprenticeship, got registered and then completed his certifying exams before starting his own very successful plumbing/gasfitting company (Revolution Plumbing) with a workmate from a previous company. Although work keeps Owen very busy there is always time for long weekends away on the water and planning for a trip further afield will keep the spirits up when away from the boat.

Emma Crump
Emma is a novice when it comes to sailing, first time she stepped foot on a yacht was a charter yacht that was hired with some friends for Christmas 2010. Fast forward a hectic few months and she has agreed to sail several thousand nautical miles across the largest ocean on earth back to New Zealand. Thankfully that trip was altered and the boat came home on a ship. Fast forward another few years and now with a couple of thousand miles under her belt including a circumnavigation of New Zealand's North Island she is learning the ropes and will scrub up to be a pretty good first mate (if she can stop being sea sick for a moment).

To pass the working week and help pay for the upkeep on Dulcinea Emma works at a small production company (Tandem Studios) based in Christchurch working on corporate videos, live streaming, TV shows and everything in-between. Also a keen scuba diver this fits hand in hand with sailing and she has done some pretty amazing diving in New Zealand on an old Navy Frigate and at the world renowned Poor Knights Islands with plenty of others in between.
