Putanui Point to Take-In Bay
We all had a good sleep in this morning after a rather late night, I was the last to get up and awoke to Amy cooking up a storm and had pancakes ready, what a start to the day! the day looked beautiful and there was a nice little breeze building. We looked at the charts and were hoping to head north to Stafford bay or somewhere around there but after we got around Putanui Point it was clear the wind was funneling down the Sound and we had little chance of sailing north so made the decision to turn to starboard and head up Keneperu Sound and find a mooring close to Portage. There was a good breeze going now and after Schnapper Point we had wind around 15-20kn just forward of the beam and we were flying along at over 6kn and just before we got to the mooring site we god a good blast of 25kn and pushed over 7kn before the wind was sheltered from the hills surrounding Take-In Bay. We pulled up the club mooring with no problems and settled downstairs for a late lunch and some warmth as the day was beginning to get a bit grey and cold. Roe, Emma and I decided to go for a dinghy ride as there was a hole in the rock i guess you could call it that I had always wanted to see (it is a small low point in the hillside that separates Take-In Bay and un-named bay on the opposite side), all that is in between is a bit of beach so its quite a cool sight. While there we walked up a path that took us to a main highway, it was hard to believe we were so close to a main road when it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, we took some photos of the boat and headed back to the boat via a quick stop at the small stony beach behind the mooring. Amy was trying to catch up on sleep like the nanna she is so we left her for a while before heading below to begin the nights shenanigans. We had a pretty good pressure cooked lamb roast with potatoes, onions, kumera and whatever else I managed to stuff in there, followed by a few games of Rummi-kub and a looong game of monopoly (what other sort could there possibly be?!?), where I got smashed and right at the end sold off my properties to the person who yelled a figure out first...most went for around $1. Needless to say Roe cleaned up everyone and was rather smug about the whole situation. That wasn't the end and drinks continued to flow and some serious indepth discussions began to follow, by near 1am I had enough and went to bed while the others talked into the night and ended up finishing somewhere around 2am I think.
