Take-In Bay back to Putanui Point

After another decent sleep in and watching the weather deteriorate through the large hatch above it was had to get up again. Finally we were all up, had breakfast and the morning ritual of hot drinks before donning warm clothes and foul weather gear because it was shaping up to be a doozie! the wind was building and as I looked at the clouds whizzing by high above us I was praying for some good downwind or beam reaching. We packed everything away as I was pretty sure things would get on a good lean today, we dropped the mooring ball and motored off toward the inlet to the sound. Soon enough we were able to kill the motor and get some sails up and were ticking along nicely until around Schnapper point (once again this point features this weekend), when the wind ripped up from  the SW and we were not able to clear the point, we tacked back toward St Omar but the wind was a pain, it was almost like we were heading back the same way we just came from so we flicked the motor on and motorsailed so we could cleat the point. Then as usual the wind moved around more to the W and it was right on the nose as usual so time to furl in the sails and motor. As we got nearer to the inlet to Keneperu Sound the wind picked up to just over 45kn then dropped right off again...welcome to the frustration of sailing in this spot! as soon as we got out to the main Pelorus channel we threw up full genoa and rocketed downwind at 7.5kn but unfortunately short lived and we had to hang hard to port and pickup a mooring for the night right back where we stayed the first night. We picked up the mooring with no problem, piled downstairs and decided to have a well deserved hot and very late lunch. Thanks to the ladies aboard for their hard work in the kitchen! the rest of the day was spent listening to the wind howling around the boat, the wind generator sounding like it was going to take flight and playing some board games. We never even had dinner tonight as we had ended up having such a late lunch so in the evening just ended up having an amazing antipasto platter by Amy...thanks F. Patricia. Until tomorrow....
