Work Between Storms
The work on the boat continues and we have a long list of things to fix/upgrade and everything takes time. So far we have installed the spray dodger after being in storage for many years, waterproofed the bimini, removed the old windless (but unfortunately couldn't hurl it into the deepest depths of the ocean where it belongs), in the process of repairing holes in the deck from the old windless and have the new one 99% installed (and it works!), be good to anchor with 150ft of chain instead of just rope. The bimini frame has been strengthened/supported instead of being held up with rope, Emma has started on our new sewing machine fixing canvas parts where necessary....the list seems never ending but I know we will get there. Also just put in a few big orders for things like watermaker, life raft and cradle, flares, new dive compressor (YAY!!), new oven which was not really allowed for but our one does funny things when you close the door and try bake and to be honest I don't fancy a cake with a side order of carbon monoxide poisoning. We also decided to upgrade the fridge as it has a top loading cesspit (or do i mean fridge?), either way its disgusting and no matter how much we clean it, deodorize it and clean it again the stench of what I can only describe as rotting vegetables and decaying rodents (maybe thats a bit excessive but its not nice anyway), so yeah we have ordered a conventional front loading unit that is more economical on power and will fit nicely under the chart table and will allow me to build another cupboard space to one side of the fridge. Also with the removal of the old fridge we can make another huge cupboard in the space (and storage space is always at a premium). And finally as per the blog title, we have to work around constant low pressures forming and bringing big thunder storms and heavy rain which sends us running down below to do not much waiting for it to clear. But all in all the weather is good, we are progressing well and the boat is coming along nicely. Take care all and our thoughts are still with those in Christchurch who are dealing with all the quake damage.
