Well where do I start Key West is a rather small city and you can pretty much walk anywhere. Its 90 miles (yes I'm slowly converting to miles and feet) from Cuba and is pretty much party central most nights. Duval street is where most things happen its also home to the local gay bars and shops. Key West motto is 'One Human Family' which makes it extremely gay friendly.
One thing you should apparently do when you visit Key West is go to a Drag Show (for those that don't know what it is google it). Now I have been to plenty in my life and they all have been … well let me put it this way if it wasnt for the fact they sold alcohol to numb the pain it would have been unbearable. Well we decided when in Rome and off we went to a Drag Show at one of the local bars Aqua Q. Emma has been in a gay bar before but this would be the first time for Owen and the first time for him seeing a drag show. So I did what any supporting member of the gay Family would do I told him to imagine the worst place in the world then times that with 2 and they will know what to expect (I affectionately call gay bars evil petting zoo's).
When we arrived poor Owen got the glad eye and a grunt of approval from a very tall and big Drag Queen call Inga. But once inside I must say I was very very surprised, it passed my 3 point test with flying colours (or should that be rainbow colours). The 3 point test is sticky, gropey and itchey the floor shouldnt be sticky, you shouldn't feel like you will be molested by just stepping into the door (hence the evil petting zoo comment) and when you go to use the loo well you shouldnt feel like you will come back out with an itchy (this is pretty much my test for most things in life).
Anyways I digress we found our possy by the bar me and Emma sipping on our Appletini's and Owen drinking some lesbian beer. While we waited for what I only hope would be a good show I spotted a lesbian and pointed her out to Owen I pretty much think this messed with his head for most of the night as she looked like a 14yo boy or a chubby Bieber. However I think what messed more with his head was the straight guy in girl jeans with a pink top in velvet black high heels, yes he was straight he has a girlfriend with very large ummm personality.
Well the show was awesome and was well worth the wait, the costumes were well made, it was well choregraphed and yes Inga the one that likes abit of Owen was by far the best Queen there. She did one track called “I am Cow' and pretty much dressed up like a cow. There was one that dressed like Karen from Will and Grace and also like Cher(what a suprise). But all things considered it was a really good night and I would advise anyone that finds themselves in Key west to go visit the girls at Aqua Q and like the Drag Queen Victoria said “The more you drink the prettier I look”.
I miss my Appletini....
