Today we awoke to very little wind, overcast skies and a small amount of rain which sent us running around the yacht closing all the port holes and hatches. After a quick breakfast, tidy up and breaking the anchors bow roller further (this time the roller went plop into the depths below) we headed off bound for Key West. As the day went on the winds built an so did the following seas making for some rolly but good downwind sailing with consistent speeds of 6.5 knots only running the genoa. About 7 hours after departure, a couple of dolphin encounters and a fighter jet display from the local airforce base we headed into the channel to Key West, greeted by two large cruise ships and a bustling harbour with small islands to port and yachts moored everywhere. We headed into a local marina and tied up to the fuel dock until we could find a slip for the night, upon arrival we met the local harbour master who was more interested in getting home than helping and shoved a card into Emma’s hand and said ring this number which turned out to be shut also so after a little bit of local advise we are staying at the fuel dock for the night for free!. We headed to a local waterfront restaurant for some tea before heading off into the wonderful quaint town of Key West where we wandered for hours looking at all the nick-nack shops, copious art galleries and ice cream shops. Finally we wandered back to the boat to turn in for the night, until next time...
