Lucayan National Park.

Go to the National Park they said, fun it would be they said, see native animals they said, what a crock of shit. When someone says national park with native animals to you what comes to mind? Well to me it says lush forest (I mean its meant to be a tropical island) with lots of birds taking flight as you approach them throught the forest filling the sky with the sound of flapping wings and hopefully some form of primate (ok my standards might be high but a boi can dream). Well pretty sure the Bahamas don't have anything else then crabs (not the kind spring breakers bring) and Birds.

Well we thought the idea of visiting the National Park would be a good idea. So of we went in "little car" zooming through some very sub-standard roads and what I assume classified as towns or settlements. We finally arrived and entered the car park which basically was just a dirt patch amongst the Australian Pine trees. A friendly local fella wandered up to us in what looked like a professional get-up that said "Lucayan National Park" on it and charged us US$3 each for the privilage to wonder their National Park of Australian Pines, however cheap it might sound it would be the second time in a week we have paid to wonder onto a beach but I'm getting ahead of myself. So to get the full picture there is a North and South part to the Park of Australian Pines on either side of the Highway.

North Side:
So the north side houses the dirt patch that is the carpark and a few caves all amongst the Australian Pine. The first cave we came across was Ben's Cave yup you heard me Ben's Cave, story has it Ben (who would have thought) was wandering around minding his own beez wax when he came across a hole in the ground now Ben being a nosey bugger went to investigate and found that the hole was actually part of a hidden cave's roof that have collapsed.
So they shoved a spiral staircase in it and some dodgy looking platforms and now allow people to go see Ben's Cave. Its apparently part of the worlds largest something or rather cave system. Apparently the top layer of the water is fresh water and the bottom is salt water, all I could tell was that it had fishies in it. We pretty much bailed out of Ben's Hole oops I mean Cave when it started making noises and there was a ripple in the water. There was also another cave there similar to Ben's Cave with less water and more rocks and more plants and apparently some dead Indians buried in it for good measure.

South Side:
Well I must say the South Side was my favourite it still was a shit hole but was my favourite. So we wandered over the dirt patch car park and crossed the National Highway using a Zebra Crossing. Dont think I have actually ever seen a Zebra Crossing on a Highway in my life, little did we know it would be the closed thing to an animal we would see all day. So we were told by the friendly charge you $3's local that the path worked as a loop so you could go either way. Go to the left and you will see birds go right you will see native plants and at the end a beach. So we decided to go right as it was shorter and only promised plants which we thought would be shit and thought we might as well get it over and done with. They had great info on all their plants just a pity none of the plants actually was anywhere near the signs or anywhere in the park so to speak. Towards the beach there was promise of land crabs we only saw the holes but no crabs. I would have had more luck seeing crabs in a pool full of spring breakers then wandering around there for hours.

Now this is were the beach story would come in but I'm leaving that for last. So after we came back off the beach we went the way of the birds so to speak, now I for one was excited at the fact of exploring the mangroves from the safety of the footpath looking at all the pretty birds. Well before I go on bad mouthing their National Park of Australian Pines lets just say there wasn't even big fish in the mangroves let alone a stupid bird, anyways lets move on to the beach.

The Beach:

Like I said this would be the second time in a week that we have paid to be on a beach, but man was it worth it. It could possibly be the most beautiful beach I have ever been on to date. It had soft snow white sand with beautiful aqua water which was really warm. That beach alone was worth driving all the way there. Personally I think they should advertise it as Awesome Beach $3's and in small print with the conditions of entry have the words Lucayan National Park.
