- First I had a call from Lloyd after he had water blasted the hull telling me there was a bit of osmosis in the hull but not bad and also a couple of cracks right down the guts of the hull from forward of the keel and just aft of the keel which wasn't a good sign. I gave him the go ahead to remedy these as there is no real choice, he has however informed me its not as bad as originally thought and works are progressing well to fix it all up.
- Portlight holes are all cut ready for the new ones to be installed once the hull is painted.
- Engine is removed from the boat and I received an email giving me a few options to choose from and whether I wanted to go new or second hand. After a lot of research, talking with Dad and working to some sort of budget I have decided to go with a brand new 55hp Volvo Penta (D2-55).
- Mast and boom are getting a hell of a clean up, sand blast where needed, etch primer, undercoat and topcoats to make it look like new.
So yeah everything is progressing well, unfortunately costing more than we had planned when just getting the painting done but at least things are going to be done right and we don't have to worry about things for quite some time. When we head out for upcoming long weekends and at christmas we won't be sitting there waiting for the engine to catastrophically fail and we end up in trouble.
