Homeward Bound

So heres the big news...... We've pulled the pin... Yup, we are coming home to chilly NZ, no more 30+ degree days for us!

We set off from our home base for the past couple of months of Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton and headed south for Isla Mujeres. We had a few rough nights and I decided I could not take and more, I was extremely seasick and I wasnt fond of the storms, I told Owen I couldnt do it and wanted to go home. I know this seems like a rash decision from me after only a few days. However I really couldnt see myself lasting the 3 weeks at sea with nothing around me, especially if I became that sick again. I was at the stage that I could barely stand up, I couldnt eat, drink, sleep or function in any helpful capacity.

We changed course to Key West and stopped there for a few days. In the couple of days it took us to get from the middle of the Gulf of Mexico to Key West Owen and Roe had come to the same conclusion I had, they just wanted to go home. There was problems with the boat that kept coming to light the further we went. While the boat still functions as a boat, she floats and moves forward, we were having all sorts of engine problems for some reason it kept overheating and we couldnt go above 3 knots, and as Panama canal require a minimum of 8 (although 6 is fine.. dont understand that one) the decision was being confirmed for us.

We are now in West Palm Beach, Florida at Old Ship Cove Marina sorting out paperwork to send the boat home by boat. Athough it is a bit gutting that we wont be able to do the whole trip that we had planned to have, We dont regret the decision to get off the boat and go home. We have all had an amazing time and met some wonderful people. From our fist stop in the Bahamas right through to now. I want to sincerely thank everyone we have met on this journey we have had for being so kind and helpful, whenever we had a problem (which lets face it there has been a few) there has always been someone there to help us out or suggest the best person for the job. We have especially loved the time we spent at Twin Dolphin Marina, we really didnt want to leave, I would have been very happy living there for longer than we did (much to Debbies horror I'm sure). We will all miss everyone there so much and maybe one day we will make it back there to annoy you all somemore.

you gave it a good shot! If you hadn't have gone you would always have wondered and there'll always be oceans and boat and other times. Besides if you weren't there who would we have visited when we came to Florida??? Our Miami leg would have been a bust. Have a safe trip back.
