The Drive

So after a crappy night sleep I was up around 7am, have some breakfast which I really wasn't in the mood for so went down with much effort, then it was throw everything in the boot, defrost the car and head off to pick Roeloff up from home. I arrived to his place about 8am, threw his stuff in the back and it was off to Picton with a quick stop at his dads garage in Amberley to drop off some business cards. We were making good time and stopped for a pie from BP Kaikoura before heading off and getting stuck behind all the slow people we spend the last 2 hours passing (thanks to horsie people towing horse floats!).  But after our stops and slow people, road works and everything else that annoys you on long drives we made it to Picton about lunch time and a good hour before we had to get on the ferry. So we carried on driving around to Waikawa marina and had a look around the boats there and managed to find Follow the Sun (the yacht we hired a couple of years ago). Then a quick stop at the local chandlery to get a paper chart of the Marlbrough Sounds area. We then toodled back to Bluebridge to check our bags in for the crossing, wait in the stinking hot terminal for 45mins then finally board the ferry. There must have only been 30odd people on the ferry so we had no problems getting prime location seating in the movie area and passed the time while watching Iron Man 2 and Hugo (both of which were hard to hear over the sound of the engines). We arrived into Wellington on dark to be greeted by the car rental company who took us to the interisland terminal where we picked up a lovely brand new Ford Focus in vomit yellow. We had a quick stop at the golden arches for some dinner then carried onto the boat. Now I was very anxious about what I was going to find as I know we left a couple of packs of hash browns in the freezer (power off) well over a month ago so I had mental thoughts of the hash browns walking themselves around the boat. We opened her up and found it was not that bad, it had a good coating of mold on it but nothing too serious, and nothing a good bleach wash couldn't fix. We had a really good clean up as the boat had a good soaking of salt water coming in which really showed, a couple of hours later we were done, jumped in the shower and soon after headed to bed to get ready for a big day tomorrow.
