We were awoken this morning by an alarm, but I could have quite happily slept for another few hours but we had to make a move so it was up and about, have some breakfast and get things packed away. Judging by the lack of wind this morning I would assume the day was going to produce very little as the day progressed so it was probably going to be several hours of motoring ahead. Not long after breakfast it was time to drop the mooring ball, and head for Allen Strait at the turn of the tide to try minimize the tidal flow through the strait, upon arrival it was clear there was still some decent flow through the strait and our speed dropped by a good knot or so until we made it through. It was also pretty clear the power of it as two fishing boats were quickly pulled from one side to the other, so I would hate to see that one in full flow. We kept on chugging and waved hello and goodbye to another passing yacht bound for Allen Strait, then it was around Kaitira Point and we were finally into the Pelorus Sounds. The wind was next to nothing and the water like glass, we got a good view of some old world war II gun emplacements as we rounded the point and beautiful sights looking down the sound. The next decision was lunch time, we were making good time and were tossing up between stopping somewhere for some lunch or just eating on the go, eating on the go seemed the winning consensus and after a bacon, egg, cheese and tomato sandwich it was time for some excitement. We heard the sound of the fishing reel spooling out and I jumped for the rod and began winding, after a few minutes fighting with the fish it was at the boat and was a pretty good size (maybe a couple of feet+ long), Emma went for the gaff and as soon as I went to get it out of the water it jumped off the hook and swam back to the depths of the sound below (it turns out it was a Barracuda anyway so good thing we didn't land the thing). The rest of the day went pretty smoothly and was rather uneventful other than scenery of the dramatic bush clad hills rising sharply out of the water around us and watching a fat sheep bound its way back up the hills from the beach they were on. We arrived at Penguin bay around the 3pm mark and after anchoring pretty close to shore in 35ft of water we promptly pumped up the dinghy and rowed ashore to explore before it got too dark. Emma and Roe went looking around and I had another go at getting the outboard to go, it wasn't running to well and I think I am putting it down to fuel thats been sitting for quite some time, but after 10mins of pulling and pulling on the starter cord she fired to life and off I went to find the others. We eventually all piled into the dinghy and motored back to the boat, completed about 270degree rotation around the boat to do some filming before the engine died again so out with the oars and row the last 50 meters. We all hopped aboard and began some tea, watched more Family Guy and finally settled down with a rum and coke and watched Kinky Boots. Since it was after 11pm when that finished we all retired to bed to get ready for the last hop to the marina tomorrow.
