Putanui Point to Maori Bay

After a bit of a sleep in considering the 1am bed time after a late marina leaving due to tides we had a cook up of pancakes by myself and sorry to everyone as they were a little bit like eating cardboard...nothing a LOT of jam cant solve. The morning was a cracker and we were looking forward to some good sailing and sun bathing on deck but not long after getting around Putanui Point we had the clouds move in, the wind build and then the darker clouds move in. We had some good sailing at points and then motoring in-between to fill in the lulls or when the wind was right on the nose. We originally headed for a mooring at Jacobs Bay but due to the wind direction its was pretty breezy in there so never pulled the mooring and headed right across the sound to Yncyca Bay and took the mooring there which was quite calm, for a brief period then it kicked up pretty rough and we were getting 30kn in there so we decided to head for somewhere else and get some shelter (fingers crossed!). About 1min off the mooring the engine temp shot right up and we quickly turned it off, got out the sails and kept moving to avoid getting too close to the shore. I checked the overflow tank in the rear locker and that was full, pulled Roes bed to bits and checked the raw water strainer...clear! also checked the raw water seacock....flowing full bore. Now I was confused! we carried on sailing for a bit and then managed to get the mainsail furler jammed up! bloody hell!!! what next. We sailed into Maori Bay, faced into the wind and furled the genoa before dropping the pick, had something to eat and I opened the radiator cap on the engine now it had cooled down a bit and bingo...no water in there! there is the problem. So filled it up, fired her up and ran it for some time with no problems. Good now one problem solved and one more to go, we decided to head to the nearby mooring in the same bay now we could motor and it was also calmer in there. Not long after getting on the ball I was up the mast working in conjunction with Dad trying to get the bloody main furled away, interrupted by another yacht we had passed earlier in the day wanting to raft up to us, since he was a club member we couldn't exactly tell him to bugger off (and it turns out they are lovely but more on that later). Finally after a good half an hour up and down the mast we had the main free and it furled up fine. Now that was all done and I was back down another boat, this time a motorboat wanted to raft up as well so pulled along our other side and tied up then both occupants just disappeared inside and we didnt see them again (RUDE!), but the yacht occupants we lovely! dad, mum and their 10yo son all came aboard for some drinks and a chat before it got too cold and we all disappeared below our respective boats for the night. We had a good cookup, some drinks and watched the movie 'In Bruge' which was a good laugh before heading to bed after a long and at times stressful day. I think last nights late night was catching up too. Until tomorrow!
