Easter/ANZAC - Day 3: Whareata Bay, D’Urville Island - Philante Bay, D’urville Island

We awoke to torrential rain, which when in holiday mode in a house or hotel would have been enough to make you curl back up in bed and go to sleep, but on a boat where we had recently just fixed a whole lot of leaks and left the companionway door open to keep airflow it meant a jump out of bed to check that there wasn’t water going everywhere! I jumped (ok hauled myself) out of bed to check and there was a suspiciously load dripping coming from a hatch in our room but much to my delight it was just very large raindrops hitting it and not a leak, YAY, so I shut the companionway door and headed back to bed to listen to the rain hitting the deck above for a little longer.

When we eventually did get up we decided to wait around a bit and see if the weather cleared, as it cleared
Bruce decided to chuck the fishing rod in and see what was about. Owen and I had high hopes as last time we had moored at Whareata Bay there was so many blue cod biting it wasn't even sporting! Sure enough the nibbles started and Bruce was heaving them over, throwing back any undersize. I popped up to have a go and promptly caught 3 more fish (in under 10 minutes!) We threw two of them back as we decided 3 was heaps for lunch.

With fishing over we decided to head round the heads of D’Urville. I hung out down below reading my book (Which I can happily report have finished in 2 days and am ready for my next one, perfect holiday paced reading I think). Owen and Bruce hung out on top chatting and motoring as there really wasn't much wind. As we got round the top of D’Urville the swells got quite large and my stomach decided it had cooperated enough for one day and let me sit the rest of the ride up top feeling ill!

It started to calm down and we found our mooring in an absolutely beautiful spot that I am very much looking forward to exploring tomorrow if the weather holds out. Owen got our dive gear ready, Bruce cooked the fish, I read my book some more and then the guys fell asleep for a nap while I baked muffins. All in all a good day of holiday, all we need now is a little more wind so we can actually sail a little!
