Easter/ANZAC - Day 4: Philante Bay, D’urville Island

Happy Easter! This time last year we were getting ready for an Easter Egg hunt with Alex and Sammy around Dulcinea. But with and adult crew on board we just pulled out the chocolate to share.
Weather hasn’t been fantastic and out by the heads it looked very windy so we thought we would just stay put for the day. We started the day with some eggs benedict and bacon and then had a few rounds of Rummikub. By that point it was getting a little rolly on our little mooring so as the sun had popped out we thought we would give one of the other bays ago. We got going up the other arm, it was a little choppy but as we got in there was some beautiful sheltered spots, unfortunately they were all deep, shallowest one we found was 50ft. Bruce decided that we were just like captain cook exploring the bays, Owen just looked annoyed that there was nowhere nice and new to stop for the night! We decided it was better to turn back where we came from.  The winds got up gusting up around 40knots so it was pretty slow progress to get back, we decided to try out Skeggs mooring and have a dive.

I have just updated my dive gear so wanted to give it ago. By the time we got to the mooring it was 4pm so we ran about getting gear sorted and getting wetsuits on. A lot of washing liquid later we were suited up and in the water, Bruce chucked our BCDs in and we set about checking our weights and how everything worked. Much to my disgust I managed to lose a weight pocket when our vests where thrown in and Owens spare octi was leaking like a sieve so there was very little point carrying on. We briefly wondered about how we could try and go down and search the bottom for my pocket, but decided there was too big an area to try and search and the dark was coming. So for my first dive with my new gear it was really a divesaster…. (sorry couldn’t resist!)

Skeggs turned out to be fairly rocky so we shilfted back over to Philante.
