Waitangi Weekend Day 1 - Havelock to Putanui Point
Today was a normal working day as usually happens before heading off on a long weekend, I managed to finish a little bit early, get all the gear packed at home and stuffed into the car, picked Emma up and then it was off to pickup Roe and Karen, the car was pretty full at this stage with just our stuff and the food we had brought. When we saw the massive pile that those 2 had managed to bring I was doubtful we were ever going to get it all to fit in, and it was a struggle even with stuff piled at peoples feet and in the centre between Roe and Karen, never the less we managed to make it up to Havelock in one piece. Then followed the usual processes when arriving and preparing for a late night departure, check engine, fill water tanks, store gear and food, cast off the lines and head for the channel. It was thankfully nice weather and clear making spotlighting the narrow channel out of the marina at midnight easy, we managed to mess up one marker and pass on the wrong side (only noticed when the depth was getting to about 7ft), the rest of the short 2 hour jaunt to out usual mooring ball at Putanui Pt was pretty uneventful, arrived somewhere around 2am and soon went below for a much needed sleep.
