Hi all to those who read my blog, finally we are getting to the good end of the year when it warms up and this year I am trying to make the most of having the yacht and get out or at least to it (even if its pottering around working on it). Last year it was stuck up in Wellington so it got very little love...but anyway enough rambling. Today is Canterbury show day so Emma and I made a last minute decision to head off to the boat for the last long weekend before Christmas hits, we traveled up last night and got into the boat about 11pm from memory after we fluffed around at home and left later than we could have. But anyway today was a lovely morning and we started off with a walk into Havelock to the local supermarket for some english muffins, the press and a lotto ticket followed closely by a large breakfast and coffee at one of the local cafes. Then it was back to the boat, fill the water tanks, shower up and head out with the high tide about 10am, We motored out through the marked channel which seems to take forever but the sun was lovely and we relaxed on deck and let Otto drive. We headed for Kenepuru Sound but still could not sail as the wind was on the nose all the way to Schnapper Point and after that we got to do a good wee sail in 15kn until we reached our chosen stop of Long Bay (just looked good on the chart), but we were stoked to find a Pelorus Boating Club mooring in a beautiful corner of the bay and pulled it up hoping that nobody else would come along and want the mooring. The sun was still shining and I quickly donned the wetsuit and braced for a cold swim but it was actually quite pleasant, Emma and Koda took the dinghy to shore and I played around in the water with the mask and snorkel. We messed around on the boat for the rest of the afternoon before retiring below for some dinner (yummy butchers chicken stir-fry on rice) and settling into watching some Mythbusters episodes until it was near midnight. Time for bed!
