Coming into Poverty Bay (Gisborne) |
After a very rough night which reminded me of the night we spent anchored off Ft Lauderdale (both times due to poor choice of anchorage and subject to swell), however we were both so tired that we managed to get a good nights rest. We awoke to a chilly but beautiful clear day with little wind. After a leftover piece of pizza for breakfast we pulled up the anchor and started motoring toward Gisborne, after a short while the engine alarm went off and started to overheat, a quick inspection found a hose clamp had corroded through and the engine lost all water. A quick fix by dad and refilled with water we were back into action. As the morning went on the wind dropped to pretty much nothing and we motored along at 6.6kn toward Gizzy. A little after 1pm we arrived into the little harbour, found our space and after a tight and tricky berthing we got all tied up. I was pretty much straight off the boat with the broken autopilot control arm and a good hike across town to a local engineering firm to get a solid plate steel one welded up. Picked up some antifreeze/summer coolant on way back as well as a new lock for the hatch. Upon return to the boat the alternator was off and off I went again to the other side of town to drop that off to an auto electrician. Return to the yacht again and fixed up the bow roller and had a quick clean up. The phone rang and the autopilot arm was ready and alternator was nearly ready. So off for another big walk and pick both them up, hike back across town and install both (I did the autopilot while dad did the alternator. After both of those, a quick bite at Lone Star and a beer it was pretty much bed time.
