Auckland to Potiki Bay
Well another blustery day here in Auckland and the winds are up around 20-25kn with overcast weather so its pretty miserable. But we cast off the dock and start steaming our way toward Rangitoto Island and beyond. The sails went up soon and we were making good headway toward the head we have to round to get out of the Hauraki Gulf. We rounded Channel Island early afternoon and thought we had made huge headway. As night time was descending we were looking for somewhere to drop anchor, pulled into one bay and could not find somewhere decent that was sheltered so headed for the next one around, it was pitch black by the time we got in there and we had to work entirely off the chart plotter (which was scary as it said we should be in about 12ft of water but we were still in 40ft so I was getting really wary about heading in too much further to find shallower water. We eventually settled in 30odd ft and dropped the pick, 150ft of chain and some rope. Had a cookup and pretty much went right to bed.
