Let there be power

So today was a good day to sleep in, I was ready to get up and head to the boat but then the heavens opened up and its poured down so I figured it was far nicer curled up in bed. Then Emma rang and asked if I could pick her up at 11am, sweet as thats an hour and a half away. So I got up, finished off last nights dinner for breakfast and headed to Burnsco to get some things, I got a new pressure vessel for the water system as the old one is leaking (oh yeah that was another discovery yesterday as it had caused mold to grow in a cupboard), anyhow, also hot a new cigarette lighter socket for the cockpit, fishing rod holders and another staunchin mounted fairlead for the genoa furler line. Then off to the airport, pick Emma up and drop her home. Then off to the boat and back to work, I checked the steel epoxy and it claims it goes like steel in 5mins, well after 24hours it was still like soft putty so ripped that useless stuff off...hmmm what to use next, might have to investigate that one. Then time to install the water pressure vessel but guess what, the fittings in the box are different to the display model I looked at....for F's sake! oh well guess thats in the next time pile. Off to try find why the engine had no power....after looking at all the wires I could think would cause it I was still baffled and eventually thought to look around where dad was playing with the oil filter....well what do we have here, a wire not connected but the big mystery is where the bloody hell does it go? I kinda just guessed where I thought and turned the key, yay we have power. Right lets start it. Well guess what it will not start, it just cranks and cranks but will not fire. Dads on his way, he can help. But to cut a long story short the oil filter bracket dad tied out the way needs to be earthed to the engine to turn the engine over, so he raced off to try get some bolts that we could attach this damn thing correctly (it has been floating around the back of the engine for years!) so after he returned I actually found the original bolts (whoops), so we bolted that on and she fired up straight away! success!!! finally the engine is starting to work without issues. Next thing was to drain the tap water out of the coolant system and replace with anti freeze/summer coolant, easy job. Then we cranked her over again and it started within a second...she is running like a dream now. Then replaced the cockpit cigarette 12V socket, mounted fishing rod holders, emptied 20L of diesel into the boat tank and took 4 jerry cans home to fill with diesel. A rather successful day I think. Until tomorrow when I return....maybe.
