Saturday - Today had one real objective in mind, I needed to get that toe rail back on so got the last major bit of bog laid early on then started working on replacing the shore power plug so it accepts a NZ plug instead of having the completely useless USA plug. So i got the new one in, wired that to the battery charger, also running a new wire from the shore power plug to a socket in the boat so we can plug a heater or vacuum cleaner in without having to run the shore power cord into the boat...and it works great! why didn't I do this ages ago? Dad was busy working on the kitchen and re-sanded the benchtop to try get rig of large marks from our sanding a couple of weeks ago and then moved onto making the edging on the countertop which looks amazing, well done Dad!! by this time I had sanded all the bog down and also spent about an hour cutting all the old filler and fibreglass off the toe rail so we could get it back on, now it was time to add a lot of Sikaflex 11FC and seal that rail down, then 70odd bolts and just before it was dark we had it reinstalled, bolted down and all the oozing sealant was cleaned up...well done team! we went down to the local shop for some tea then retire to the saloon to watch Pitch Perfect (the 6th time for me), but I still love it, good ol 'fat Amy'. I think we were all shattered so headed for a nice hot shower and into bed.
Sunday - Today was my other second major goal, something that I have not been able to achieve since the boat got to Wellington a couple of years back, the riggers in Wellington tried and failed, Emma, Nick and I have tried and failed....to get the second halyard back down the mast after it broke off White Island en-route from Auckland. Dad hoisted me up the mast while Emma tailed the winch, it was an amazing view! I think I was up there for a good couple of hours and by the end my bum was numb and the wind had picked up signifanctly so it was cold and moving around a lot up there, but we did it! we finally have a spare halyard for a storm job or spinnaker, or whatever else we may need it for. So they lowered me down and we packed up before I realized I had not put the wind indicator back in place correctly (I moved it so it wasn't hitting me in the face) so whatever wind angle it was showing was completely wrong! so much to their annoyance they had to hoist this lump 65ft up in the air again. After that it was pretty much clean up time, try return the boat to a presentable state as we were doing a long weekend on it next weekend (Queens birthday weekend)...amazing, we were actually going out on it instead of working on her!
