Today begins at midnight I guess, most of the time I should be fast asleep and not conscious until at least 9 in the morning but unfortunately we are still enroute home and need to be keeping a lookout while at sea. As at midnight we are about in the middle of Pegasus bay off the Canterbury coast, its cold and we are still huddled under blankets in the cockpit having short power naps then getting up to make sure we are still the only ones out here. We were mostly until about 4 or 5am when we got a glimpse of a starboard light and to white lights in the distance, on went the radar and we watched as the large cargo ship steamed its way toward Lyttelton harbor. We carried on and I watched an amazing sunrise over a pretty flat and calm sea, there was a lot of fog over the city and port hills but we could eventually make out the heads with two large cargo ships anchored off the head (by Taylors Mistake). It was just after 7am by the time we were motoring through the heads, getting drenched in morning sunshine and having a look at the old WW2 gun emplacement, shortly after we were going past the inner harbor and into Magazine Bay marina where thankfully there were a couple of people hanging out who were great and helped us tie up. Before long we were all tied up, unloading all our close belongings and heading home. Big thanks to Nick for coming to pick us up! We got home, dumped everything and went right for the shower before pigging out on food since we hadn’t really eaten in 2 days.
