Sail Time

Today I got woken up by a text message from Cory at 7:30am agreeing to come out for a sunday sail, I got up and soon after went to the boat to put everything back together and clean up ready to take Cory, Wendy and Caleb for a sail (also with Emma). They arrived around 11am and Emma arrived soon after with a bundle of groceries for a BBQ lunch out on the water. The NW wind has picked up suddenly and was blowing around 15kn which made getting out of the slip interesting and we ended up hooking the anchor around my neighbors life lines (sorry!), we quickly unhooked and were off. As soon as we were around the breakwater the wind dropped right off then picked back up and we had the boat healing over a fair bit which gave Wendy and Caleb a fright so we reefed in a bit and carried on a bit more. The the wind switched around to a SW and started picking to 20-25kn so we just pulled in the sails and motored to a nearby bay and dropped the hook for BBQ sausages, kebabs and a salad but the wind was horrible and getting quite cold so not long after lunch we motored back to our berth for what I imagined was going to be hell since winds were gusting into the high 20kn but we had a really good berthing thanks to the quick hands of Emma and Cory and before long we were all tied up and Cory & family were hopping off and going home. We stayed on a bit longer to tidy up and make sure we were well tied on as the winds were well over 30kn and the chop was getting a bigger and bigger. We couldn't be bothered doing the dishes aboard so took all dishes home with us. But all in all a good day and nice to actually use the boat instead of everyone in the marina who just own their boats to grow as much growth on their hulls as possible.
