Havelock to Paradise Bay
Apologies but I am going to tell you all about the events of the day that led to our final position in Paradise Bay. I had today off from work to get some things done, and those 'some' things turned into a heap of things and lead to a frantic day. I was having a relaxing start to the day and was about to head to the mall to pickup a few things on my list, then Simon called and wanted the nail gun so I went running off to drop that to him and only a few mins after being off the phone to him Emma rang and said she was being discharged from hospital soon and needed picking up so after dripping nail gun to Simon it was straight to the hospital and luckily I got a park right outside but unluckily got the only parking machine that didn't work! but finally got a parking permit from a nearby machine, popped upstairs and soon picked my battered looking Emma up and took her home to relax. Next was a run to Riccarton to get some things from Dick Smith, then off to Burnsco to get a filleting knife before Bunnings to get a hose fitting. Then home, make a replica of the outboard motor bracket before the rain set in, have some lunch, pack a half assed bag and then try ring the 4 new customers that EQR had sent through while watching the clock fly by and I still have not even been food shopping. It got to the stage where I gave up on the EQR jobs and rushed out the door to the supermarket, threw all sorts in the trolley and headed for the checkout. When I got home dad was already waiting so we threw stuff in the car, then Zac and Rebecca turned up and were were amazing all on the road soon after. A couple of hours later it was dinner stop in Kaikoura at Subway and back on the road for the last stretch to Havelock. We loaded up all our gear on the boat, filled the water tanks and used a proper toilet for the last time in 5 days and headed off into the darkness. I think my works were "this is terrifying at night" which didn't instill much confidence in our visiting crew. The stretch out of the marina was ok but then the section winding around the rocky cliff with only a few flashing red markers was all the more fun after our spotlight stopped working and we were plunged into darkness, I ran down to my bag and got my LED Lenser torch (I am now such a firm believer in a backup for everything or we would have been up proverbial creek without a paddle). After clearing the rocky area it was straight motoring up the bay, around Black Point and north to Paradise Bay where we dropped the hook somewhere around midnight and very quickly retired to bed.
