Despite dads great sleep last night I was quite the opposite, I woke at 5am to what I thought was a huge earthquake as the boat shook violently from side to side, I even checked my phone to see if there had been a quake. I ended up putting it down to an early morning fishing boat whos wake had given me a hell of a wake up. By this time it was getting that that point when the night is at its coldest and I was feeling it, I was freezing and the next few hours were spend dozing as I kept waking to the cold around me. The next thing I remember is hearing dad walking around then buttons being pressed as he tried to work out how to operate the fan heater. I couldn't be bothered getting up yet and ended up reading the news on my phone before dragging my sorry self up to stand in front of the heater while I sipped a hot chocolate and tried to force feed myself muesli. I was amazed to hear dad slipping around on deck as there was a sheet of ice up top (no wonder I was so cold!). The sun soon came up and it was a stunning day, the ice melted and we were back into it. I finished off the battery box and bed base while dad did something else (apologies I cant remember), that didn't take too long to finish then I went and sorted out the anchor locker as I was sick of the mess in there, I tidied all the ropes, hung them up on a new system I had devised while dad scooped the oil out of the bilge (from the problems Roe and I had in Wellington), there wasn't much oil so that was good. I made a shelf for the DVD player from some timber off the old bunk base so it matched all surrounding woodwork. Then it was clean up time! we had a hell of a good clean, we took the damaged genoa out and put it in the van, put the bimini up, swept all the boat out, stowed all the things that were laying around, took more bits home to be washed or binned or remade. By this time it was after 3pm so we finished loading the van and took off home just after 4pm. We had a good tail wind this time so made great time, and with a dinner stop in Kaikoura and a stop off for a job of mine on the way home we were back by 9pm. So again a good weekend and a lot achieved. Thanks again to dad for all the hard work, much appreciated and hope your looking forward to actually getting away in the boat instead of just working on it! only 11 days to go and we will be motoring out of the marina for a long weekend, yay!
